Our FGM work in Newham

As part of our Health Advocacy Service we run the Newham FGM Prevention Service on behalf of the London Borough of Newham. If you live in Newham and have been affected by FGM or would like to learn more about safeguarding girls or women from FGM, then we can help.

Safeguarding Training

If you’d like to know what you can do safeguard and support the girls and women in your care who might be affected by FGM and find out more about the services we offer then please get in touch. We’re working with teachers, social workers, health professionals and anyone responsible for the care of women and girls to help you find out the law on FGM, how you can help reduce young women’s risk and how to refer to our service.

One-To-One Support

If you’re a woman who has been affected FGM we provide confidential and free one-to-one case work advocacy tailored to your needs, including referring on to other specialist services.

Community Workshops

We’re working to reduce the risk of FGM to young women and girls. If you’re a leader or member of a religious or community group, and you think your group might benefit from a workshop, we can help your group find out about:

  • the law surrounding FGM
  • the health consequences of FGM
  • how to protect children from FGM
  • what to do if you are concerned or worried about someone
  • where you/others can find support if they have survived FGM

To find out more about how we can help you, call Rita Buhanda or Alima Dimonekene on 203 384 9413 or by email on rita@manorgardenscentre.org / alima@manorgardenscentre.org
